FAQ - frequently asked questions
How far will you travel?
Catch 22 are based in Newbury, we will normally travel up to 75 miles radius. The counties we perform regularly and advertise in are, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Surrey, West Sussex and Middlesex. We do play in other counties and have traveled further including Cornwall and even Belgium, but the price would reflect the distance and so may no longer be competitive with bands from those areas. We are happy to discuss any venue with you.
How long do you play for?
enough material for well over 3 hours of live performance. We find we usually do one set then break for food or raffle, followed
by an hour and a half set to finish. Tell us how you would like the evening to run we will work with you to ensure your guests stay and dance to the
end of the evening. We do provide background music during dinner and for dancing during our breaks.
How long do you need to set up?
To set up
and sound check, we will require 1½ hours to be comfortable. Please try and give us as much information about access to the venue as possible, parking and distance to carry the gear, plus any other events or acts we need to work around. This will help us factor in the best time for us to leave home.
What size area do you need to play?
We are a 4
piece, with room to move about we would like an area of 15ft wide x 10ft deep.
However, we have squeezed into much smaller spaces in Restaurant windows. For outside performances on grass and in marquees we would require a solid level floor area for the band to set up on.
Do you need a room to change?
We normally ask for a room, when in hotels they sometimes provide a conference meeting room when a bedroom is not available. Somewhere warm, dry and secure to change and leave personal belongings and equipment.
Do you require drinks or food to be supplied on the evening?
Travel time and set up, often requires us to leave home late afternoon, with no
time to eat and drink. So an invitation to join your guests at the buffet would
be most welcome. It is often impossible to leave the venue to find food
elsewhere before we are required to perform. Only two band members tend to eat at gigs.
Will you learn our favourite song?
always open to learning the first song for a wedding. We have learnt many
unusual numbers over the years often finding a permanent home in our repertoire.
So go ahead surprise us. We
can also play a recording instead if you prefer.
What are your power requirements?
We are able to perform with just one double socket outlet, safely wired and earthed conforming to the Electrical Regulations. We provide extension leads to reach our equipment; these are all PAT tested every year. If the playing area is outside and you are to provide a long extension lead or generator, please discuss this with us. Our bass player is an electrical engineer and has saved us many times from poor wiring, but he would rather be sat with a drink than testing an electrical installation five minutes before we are expected to play. We do reserve the right not to perform if the electrical supply is incorrectly wired and cannot be rectified.
